North Korea plans to launch rocket in memory of Kim Il-Sung

Pyongyang, Fri, 16 Mar 2012 ANI

Pyongyang, Mar 16 (ANI): North Korea has unveiled its plan to launch a long-range rocket mounted with a satellite in honour of its late former President Kim Il-Sung's birthday next month.

According to a spokesman for the Korean Committee for Space Technology, the lift-off will take place between April 12 and 16 from a station in North Phyongan province, The Daily Express reports.

The launch will take place exactly three years after a similar launch in April 2009 drew widespread condemnation from the US, South Korea and others as a cover for testing North Korea's long-range missile technology.

The move was considered a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions that bans North Korea from carrying out nuclear and ballistic missile activity.
