Washington, Mar 16 (ANI): Russell Brand got into trouble for allegedly snatching a photographer's cell phone and throwing it through a nearby law firm's window on Monday.
A warrant from the New Orleans police department was issued for his arrest soon after, and the actor, who offered to pay for the property damage, turned himself into custody on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Brand, who filed for divorce from Katy Perry in December, posted an explanation to his Twitter after details of the incident got out, Us magazine reported.
"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently. What I did was a tribute to his memory," he tweeted.
The alleged victim of the phone snatching was said to be snapping photos of the actor using the device.
As of Thursday early evening, the 36-year-old actor was being held on 5,000 dollars bail and was being charged with simple criminal damage, 500 dollars to 50,000 dollars, per his booking documents. (ANI)
