Chisora's license taken away by British boxing authority

London, Thu, 15 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 15(ANI): Controversial boxer Dereck Chisora's boxing license has been revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) for his recent misdemeanors before and after his defeat to champion Vitali Klitschko in Munich.

Chisora's misdeeds included slapping Vitali without any provocation at the weigh-in, spitting water on Vitali's brother Wladimir before the bout and broiling with fellow British boxer David Haye after the fight.

The BBBofC has now withdrawn his boxing license, and said that Chisora is not fit enough to hold a license.

"Dereck Chisora is not a fit and proper person to hold a licence. It has been withdrawn immediately," The BBC quoted BBBofC secretary Robert Smith, as saying.

Smith refused to comment on the duration of the ban, and said the board would consider any application from Chisora but in future.

"There is no set period for when he can reapply for his license. Any person is allowed to reapply at some point and the Board will consider any application, but for today, Mr. Chisora does not hold a Board licence. What happens in the future, I do not know," he said.

Zimbabwe-born Chisora, who lost the WBC heavyweight title bout on points, has 14 days to appeal against the decision. (ANI)
