'Talks underway to reopen Indian Consulate in Karachi'

Islamabad, Wed, 14 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 14 (ANI): Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal has announced that talks are currently underway for re-opening the Indian Consulate in Karachi to facilitate Pakistani nationals applying for visas to travel across the border.

Sabharwal made the announcement while interacting with media during a visit to the Bhutto family mausoleum at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, The News reports.

He said the Bhutto family had sacrificed their lives for the sake of democracy in Pakistan.

With some 70 percent of Pakistanis seeking Indian visas being from Sindh, the two countries had agreed during the visit to New Delhi of then Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf in April 2005 to reopen consulates in Karachi and Mumbai. (ANI)
