Terry admits Champions League is Chelsea's only lifeline

London, Wed, 14 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 14(ANI): Chelsea captain John Terry believes his team cannot afford to miss out on the Champions League next season, as it would play a pivotal role in deciding THE club's future.

Chelsea would need to overturn a deficit of 3-1 against a strong Napoli side at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to remain alive in this season's Champions League.

And, Terry feels with so many players running out of contracts, staying in top four this season would be crucial.

"Naturally we have players out of contract and players in negotiation with their current contracts. I'm hoping many stay and many come," The Telegraph quoted Terry, as saying.

"But the key factor when it comes to players coming into this club is that we need to be playing Champions League football next year," Terry said.

Terry said in order to attract top talent from Europe, they need to keep playing the Champions League.

"We need Champions League football financially, and to attract the best players. We understand as a group what we need to do to ensure that happens, and we'll do everything we can to make sure it does happen," he added. (ANI)
