Cricket fixers are the invisible enemy: Mark Ramprakash

London, Wed, 14 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar.14 (ANI): Former England cricketer Mark Ramprakash has described fixers as the invisible enemy in the game of cricket.

Welcoming English cricket's purge on spot-fixing and Bollywood honey-traps, Ramprakash said: "With a new season just around the corner, there is a new sense of vigilance in the domestic game - even though we may be looking out for an invisible enemy."

He added: "The threat of spot-fixing in county cricket comes round every year like Father Christmas, but the Mervyn Westfield case has delivered a wake-up call to all of us that it is very real."

"What happened to -Westfield may have been an isolated case, but if so, let's nip it in the bud, let's make our professional cricketers, young and old, more aware of the traps and stings."

Lord's anti--corruption tsar Chris Watts has launched a new programme to highlight the risks of criminal gangs trying to infiltrate dressing rooms in England.

Former Metropolitan Police detective Watts and the PCA players' union have stepped up the battle against fixers.

All 350 players on county payrolls must complete an online module highlighting the risks of temptation. (ANI)
