London, Mar.13 (ANI): Middle order batsman Samit Patel believes that England has the wherewithal to dominate Test cricket for years to come.
Patel, in the Test squad for the first time, reckons only a dynasty like the one created by Australia from 1995 to 2009 will truly suffice.
The Sun quoted him, as saying: "Yes, we're the No 1 Test team in the world, but we want to be there for a long time. Things are going to get tougher and a lot more will be expected of us. It's not just about being there for three weeks or a year. We want to be remembered for being there for a long, long time like the Aussies were."
Up to now Patel's left-arm spinners have seen him pigeon-holed as something of a bits-and-pieces limited overs player by the selectors.
But for Nottinghamshire, his first-class record with the bat - 5,550 runs at 41 - could see him press Ravi Bopara for the No 6 spot vacated by Eoin Morgan's axing.
Patel, 27, said: "I see myself developing in the longer form of the game. Being around the Test squad gives you more confidence."
Patel believes it is time for his cricket to do the talking after getting on top of his battle with the bulge. (ANI)
