Wellington, Mar 12(ANI): Wellington fast bowler Mark Gillespie will replace Tim Southee in a 14-member New Zealand squad for the Hamilton Test against South Africa.
"Mark Gillespie returns to international cricket after showing good form recently and provides a strong and reliable bowling option," stuff.co.nz quoted New Zealand selection manager Kim Littlejohn, as saying.
Gillespie, 32, last played for New Zealand in an ODI against the West Indies in January 2009. He has played three Tests and 32 ODIs, and took 5-136 on test debut against South Africa at Centurion in November 2007.
He worked his way into New Zealand contention with some eye-catching recent spells for Wellington. In the Plunket Shield this season he has 30 wickets at 27.53 and impressed with his sharp pace.
Leg-spinner Tarun Nethula has also been included after not being required for the drawn first test in Dunedin.
"We are pleased to be able to offer Tarun an opportunity. He is bowling well and offers a point of difference to the attack," Littlejohn said.
The batting order remained intact, with Rob Nicol (6 and 19 in Dunedin) getting another chance.
Kruger van Wyk will retain the gloves after it was confirmed BJ Watling would remain sidelined due to hip injury.
