DRS technology to be used for Hamilton, Wellington Tests

Wellington, Mon, 12 Mar 2012 ANI

Wellington, Mar 12(ANI): A threat to withdraw the Decision Review System from the final two Tests between New Zealand and South Africa was averted after the International Cricket Council gave the technology "100 per cent support".

"We have 100 per cent support for the level of accuracy and reliability. The way we use it is totally fit for purpose. We reassured Ian we still support the technology," stuff.co.nz quoted ICC general manager of cricket Dave Richardson, as saying.

The decision was reached at a meeting between Taylor, ICC general manager of cricket Dave Richardson, Sky's executive producer of cricket James Cameron and NZC's umpires manager Rodger McHarg.

Ian Taylor, who created the Virtual Eye technology used by the third umpire, was earlier criticized by South African player Jacques Kallis and New Zealand player Doug Bracewell during the first Test.

"I don't think there are any guys that are 100 per cent sure that things are as accurate as what they want to make it out to be. I'm not sure and I think 99 per cent of cricketers would say that," Kallis said.

Bracewell had slammed the DRS decision to overturn his successful lbw against Jacques Rudolph, which replays showed pitched outside leg stump, was "a mistake".

Taylor had responded to the criticism saying he arrived at University Oval in Dunedin intending to tell Sky Television and New Zealand Cricket that he was removing the technology for the rest of the series.

"If Jacques or Doug had taken the time to come and have a look at what the pictures actually show and how we collected that data they might not have been so vociferous. Unless I could see a way forward and we could make a difference, then I wanted to draw a line in the sand." Taylor said. (ANI)
