Gilani claims 'my ties with Pak Army so close that no air can pass through'

Islamabad, Mon, 12 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 12 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said he is having such a cordial relationship with the Army that "no air can pass" between them.

He said the memo issue has not affected his relationship with the Pakistan army.

"Such is the level of our closeness that no air can pass between me and the military," The Nation quoted the premier, as saying.

"I am having very close bonds with the Army and there should be no doubt about it," he added.

The Pakistan Government has issued a show-cause notice to Defence Secretary Naeem Khalid Lodhi for submitting an affidavit on the Memo Gate probe to the Supreme Court without seeking approval from Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar.

The move comes in the wake of escalating tensions between the Pakistan Government and army over the Memo Gate probe.

The Pakistan Government is reportedly angry with Lodhi for submitting an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that the country's defence ministry has 'no operational control' over the army and the Inter-Services Intelligence.

Gilani, subsequently, ordered Lodhi to submit a fresh affidavit that was more in line with the government's stance but he refused to obey. (ANI)
