London, Mar 8(ANI): World number one golfer Rory McIlroy, who is a known die-hard fan of Manchester United, is thrilled to receive congratulatory messages from United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, star striker Wayne Rooney and defender Rio Ferdinand.
Even Greg Norman also called his fellow golfing superstar during another whirlwind week for the best player on the planet.
"I got a text from Fergie. Got one from Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, a few of the United boys. I got a lot. It is pretty surreal watching Man United for so many years, and then having Alex Ferguson send you a text message or Wayne Rooney. I've been to Old Trafford many times and met them briefly, but I haven't spent a great length of time with them," The Mirror quoted McIlroy, as saying.
"People just wanted to congratulate you and give their words of support and encouragement. Greg Norman sent one to me. He left me a voicemail and a message. He said some very complimentary things. It's a nice position to be in," he said.
The Ulsterman will play his final event before the Masters at the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Florida starting today. But the 22-year-old nipped up to New York this week to see girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki, who is known to be a Liverpool fan. (ANI)
