Melbourne, Mar 8(ANI): Australian and Victorian cricketer Peter Siddle does not expect to play one-day cricket until Brett Lee retires, but has reminded selectors that he is a very different bowler from when he last represented his country in that format 18 months ago.
"It is disappointing in a way, but obviously to me, Test cricket is what I want to play. I do want to play one-day cricket, but I think with the make-up of the side at the moment, with me and Brett Lee probably being pretty similar in the role we would play, I think it's probably hard for us to play together. I've got to just bide my time, and hopefully, when he finishes up, they still want someone experienced in there and I might get an opportunity then," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Siddle, as saying.
"It's a good opportunity to keep playing some Shield cricket for Victoria and staying in that long format mode and get ready for the West Indies," he added.
His statement comes after Australian selector John Inverarity said he is not in Australia's short-term ODI plans.
Siddle has claimed 15 ODI wickets at an average of 38.73.
"Even last time I played [ODIs] I hadn't played much, there had been 10 months' gap from the last time because of my back injury and they just wanted me to get some international cricket. I was a little bit underdone and not in a good place at that time," he said.
"I think I am now, the little change I have made with my action, the way I am bowling and executing. I would definitely be a lot better player early on now, with the swing that I'm generating," he added. (ANI)
