Necktie ' may die out in Brit firms within 50 yrs'

London, Tue, 06 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 6 (ANI): Once considered an essential part of formal wear, the necktie may soon become obsolete for British workers in 50 years' time, a new study has revealed.

Nearly a quarter, 22 per cent, surveyed said that they do not think that office workers will be wearing a tie in 10 years' time.

More than half, 51 per cent, think ties could go within 20 years and 74 per cent predict 50 years. The popularity of open collar shirts and dress down days is blamed, the Daily Express reported.

Also the boom in creative businesses, like Facebook and Google, and online trading companies where formal dress codes are shunned for casual clothes has also been cited as a reason.

"Many of our members work from home so they feel no need to dress up to go to work. We know that when they meet with clients, they still put on a business suit, but a tie is no longer seen as an essential part of the suited-and-booted look," a spokesman for the poll, by DealJungle. com, said.

"The tie-less suit creates an impression of a more approachable deal maker, someone who is still business-minded, yet creative and technology-savvy, too," the spokesman added. (ANI)
