Wellington, Mar 6 (ANI): Former skipper Daniel Vettori has confirmed New Zealand would stick with the lineup that served them well in back-to-back wins in Hobart and Napier, with Tim Southee partnering Chris Martin, Doug Bracewell and Trent Boult in the first test against South Africa.
Southee's place appeared in doubt after a lean recent run and a combined 1-125 off 18 overs in the ODI series.
But after a blistering spell in the nets at a cool, overcast University Oval, Southee got the nod to take on the powerful South African batsmen, stuff.co.nz reports.
"He's got the ability to swing the ball. If it's all going well, then he can be pretty devastating. That's his mindset, if he gets it right, then he can make a real difference to the team," said Vettori. Southee averages 41 per wicket from 16 Tests but can produce game-changing spells. (ANI)
