Cape Town, Mar 6(ANI): South Africa is eyeing a clean sweep in the Test series against New Zealand to claim the World No. 1 Test ranking.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith said it was understandable that New Zealand fans might be a little pessimistic after being whitewashed 3-0 in the one-day series, but the hosts had brought in experienced reinforcements.
"We're by no means taking New Zealand for granted, and we expect, especially this first Test, to be a really big challenge. If we can perform well in this first Test match, maybe we can dent that confidence even more [so] maybe it's not as thick and strong as what it was a few months ago," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Smith, as saying.
South Africa will also seek to ruin the debut of New Zealand's South African-born wicketkeeper Kruger van Wyk.
"It's nothing new to us, especially when we are touring England. He probably speaks more Afrikaans than me still. He's an opponent now, that's the reality," Smith said.
Smith said his side would probably field the same side that had played in the series against Sri Lanka, which South Africa won 2-1.
It is, however, still doubtful whether allrounder Jacques Kallis, who is suffering from a sore back, will feature in the series. (ANI)
