Texas prisoners enjoyed porn for 3 months after rewiring TV sets

London, Mar 5 (ANI): Inmates in a Texas prison were found watching pornographic television programs on a nightly basis for at least three months despite complaints by the guards.

Guards at Liberty County Jail reported that the inmates watched the programs on Cinemax for, in some cases, hours at night since last December before a cable scrambler was attached last month.

Jail records dated in early February showed complaints by guards of the racy content.

"4 dorm watching porno channel again," the Daily Mail quoted one complaint as saying.

"One of the TVs had porn on it. Told them to change the channel," another complaint said.

According to Liberty County, they complained to Comcast, the facility's cable provider, for weeks but it wasn't taken seriously.

They say it was only until they threatened to terminate their cable service all together that the company sent someone over.

"I believe that Comcast just couldn't believe that their system had been manipulated," Captain Rex Evans with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, said.

Inmates said they disconnected the cable and bypassed the set-top control box, then connecting the cable wire into the back of the TV allowing them to watch the programs.

"Once Liberty County made us aware the inmates had access to Cinemax, we took the necessary steps to block access to the channel," Comcast spokesperson said.

On February 7, a Comcast engineer visited the facility, installing a scrambling device to block the adult content.

One inmate said that the nightly viewing of pornography in the facility created "a lot of fights".

Another inmate said it "made the showers hell" after the viewing.

"If you're watching this you're not able to go out and get a woman, what's next in the prison? Who else but another offender?" Maryanne Denner, a veteran prison instructor, said.

Said to pacify and occupy the inmates, the televisions and their monthly cable bill are paid for by inmate trust funds instead of tax dollars, according to authorities at the jail. (ANI)
