Villas-Boas' sacking depicts how difficult life is for any Chelsea manager

London, Mar 5(ANI): Andrea Villas-Boas' sacking as Chelsea manager just after being in charge for 257 days has once again shown that how tough it is for any manager to work with the Blues.

Villas-Boas axing has derived a string of reactions from various current and former managers in the Premier League.

Ray Wilkins, an ex-Chelsea player and former assistant boss at club, believes that the manager at Chelsea is never backed by the upper hierarchy.

"In that position, you always want your hierarchy to come out and support you. It doesn't always happen," The Sun quoted Wilkins, as saying.

Former Blues manager Avram Grant believes that for managing a club like Chelsea, there are many factors involved over which one has no control. He also praised Villas-Boas, and believes he will achieve success as a manager in the future.

"At a club like Chelsea you need to deal not only with football, but other issues. I think, in this case, he was lacking a little bit of experience, but I'm sure he'll succeed. He knows football," Grant said.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said it is disappointing for a young manager to get the sack within his first year at a big club like Chelsea.

"It's surprising. There was a build-up from the media, and obviously, the results have not been kind. It's disappointing, as he's a young manager, and when you are young, you need time. In this industry, you don't get much time unfortunately," said Ferguson.

"So, it's sad in a way, and I hope, he does well because he has the potential. His work at Porto cannot be ignored," he added.

Villas-Boas had cost the Blues 13,000 pounds-a-minute. He realized the game was up the minute he was summoned to a meeting with owner Roman Abramovich to discuss Saturday's 1-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion. (ANI)
