Islamabad, Mar 5 (ANI): The residence of Dr Shakeel Afridi, who is arrested over treason charges for aiding the CIA to track down former al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, has been sealed in Peshawar due to law and order concerns.
Non-payment of utility bills has also forced the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO), and Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to cut the connections at Afridi's residence. Besides, telephone lines have also been cut over the issue, the Daily Times reports.
The family of the arrested doctor is said to have relocated itself to an unidentified destination, and the Hayatabad residence has been reported to be vacant since May.
He has been in the custody of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency since soon after the May 2 American raid that killed bin Laden.
The agency was humiliated and outraged by the covert American operation and is aggressively investigating the circumstances surrounding it.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta had express concern over the doctor's life, saying: "I'm very concerned about what the Pakistanis did with this individual...who in fact helped provide intelligence that was very helpful with regards to this operation. He was not in any way treasonous towards Pakistan...Pakistan and the United States have a common cause here against terrorism...and for them to take this kind of action against somebody who was helping to go after terrorism, I just think is a real mistake on their part."
