Ferguson hails Man U's 'classy' win against Spurs

London, Mon, 05 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 5(ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said his team's performance against Tottenham Hotspurs in the 3-1 victory at the White Hart Lane on Sunday was a bit lucky, but a class performance nonetheless.

"We've got to realise, and I think we do that to come here and get that result is really first class. To be just two points behind Manchester City, puts us in a massive, massive position," The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.

"We certainly carried a lot of luck. It's an unbelievable result for us, and that was our hardest away game of the season. In the first half, we were never at the races," he said.

Ferguson also conceded that the result was unfair on Spurs as they played their heart out in the absence of their three major players in Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Scott Parker.

"Unfair on Tottenham? No question about that, they played very well. But in context of all the teams who have come here, you can see why it's such a great result for us," Fergie added.

United were at full stretch until Wayne Rooney headed his 26th goal of the season just before the break. But they never looked back as Young struck twice in the second half.

Jermain Defoe got Spurs' a late consolation but Fergie added: "We had a bit of luck scoring right on half-time. It was probably our first strike on goal. Scoring the second just after half-time was the killer for Tottenham." (ANI)
