Lucknow/Noida, Mar 4 (ANI): With the end of elections in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has begun uncovering the statues of Chief Minister Mayawati and her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) symbol, which were covered on January 7 on the directions of the Election Commission (EC) for the assembly polls.
In Lucknow, nine statues of Mayawati and 156 statues of elephants, the BSP's poll symbol, were covered, while in Noida, two statues of Mayawati and 52 elephants were draped.
Ahead of assembly elections, the Election Commission had decided to cover the statues of Mayawati and her party symbol, the "elephant", erected at parks and other public places across the state in recent years.
Last year, Mayawati had opened a 33-acre park in the name of B. R. Ambedkar in Noida.he park, which was built from the government exchequer by spending Rs 650 crore has statues of elephants, B. R. Ambedkar, Kanshi Ram and Mayawati.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
The first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases of polling occurred on February 8, 11, 15, 19, 23, 28 respectively and March 3.
The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
