Sydney, Mar 2(ANI): Australian batsman Peter Forrest is set to earn Australia's reserve Test batting spot for the forthcoming West Indies tour ahead of other tried, but failed options like Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Phil Hughes.
Forrest was an unknown commodity before bursting on the international stage with a bang in the ongoing tri-series, scoring 245 runs in five matches, and now he is just one injury away from earning his maiden Baggy Green.
He was named in Australia's one-day squad for the West Indies yesterday, but is set to reap more rewards when the squad for three April Tests is named in a fortnight.
Australian coach Micky Arthur didn't comment anything about the team selection for the Caribbean tour but minced no words in praising Forrest's dazzling start.
"We wanted to bring Forrest into the one-day team because we wanted to develop the next crop of batters and assess him as a player," News.com.au quoted Arthur, as saying.
Australia's new Twenty20 skipper George Bailey was a surprise inclusion in the one-day squad to tour the West Indies, along with spinner Nathan Lyon, while fast bowler Ryan Harris was not included. (ANI)
