Davy Jones' death sparks interest in Monkeemobile again

Washington, Thu, 01 Mar 2012 ANI

Washington, Mar 1 (ANI): The sudden demise of 'The Monkees' frontman Davy Jones on Wednesday has reignited the interest in Monkeemobile - the automobile that was designed in 1960s for the popular television series.

The moment Jones died, the Monkeemobile, which is a modified Pontiac GTO, became the hot topic in the Monkees fan world.

According to TMZ, famed car customizer George Barris, who had built the car for the show, has been getting calls non-stop ever since Jones passed away and has been bombarded with questions like, "Where is the car? Is it still available? Can we see it? Can we take a photo with it?"

However, unfortunately, Barris doesn't have the car anymore as he had sold it at an auction way back in 2008 for roughly 500,000 dollars to a Michigan man by the name of Mel Gutherie.

And while Gutherie has said that he's always open to fans taking pictures with the car, but they should be willing to travel to the Midwest as he doesn't feel comfortable driving it very far.

In fact, he had to have it trucked to a Davy Jones concert in 2010, where the late singer had signed the hood. (ANI)
