Tripoli, Mar 1(ANI): The United Nations has estimated that up to 6,000 Libyans are in the custody of revolutionary brigades, which helped former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
The UN has asked Libya to speed up the process of putting facilities run by these revolutionary brigades under government control, The Fox News reports.
The U.N. envoy to Libya, Ian Martin, told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that the U.N. Support Mission continues to urge Libya's Ministry of Justice 'to accelerate the process of asserting control over facilities run by the brigades.'
Martin said Libyan authorities know that their main challenge is to address the wide circulation of weapons in the country and the future of revolutionary fighters, besides developing professional state security institutions under civilian control. (ANI)
