KFC denies having opened branch in Iran after 30-year hiatus

Tehran, Thu, 01 Mar 2012 ANI

Tehran, Mar 1 (ANI): American fast food chain restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is not opening any branch in Iran.

An earlier media report had suggested that KFC opened its first branch in Iran despite harsh US sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear programs.

The report claimed that the restaurant chain opened the branch in the country in the Central Iranian city of Karaj in Alborz province.

The report quoted Amir-Hossein Alizadeh, who claims to be the licence holder, as saying that it took him five years to get permission from the relevant local authorities to open the branch.

KFC has now filed legal action against the company and individuals claiming to have rights to open KFC restaurants in Iran.

The franchise was closed in Iran following the 1979 Islamic revolution, due to its affiliation with the enemy country US. (ANI)
