'Ocean's Eleven' voted greatest ever remake

London, Feb 27 (ANI): George Clooney starrer 'Ocean's Eleven' has been chosen as the best movie remake of all time in a recent poll.

The movie, which is based on an original 1960 film, hit screens in 2001 and went on to gross over 450million dollars worldwide.

It sees Clooney lead an all-star cast of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts in an attempted casino robbery in Las Vegas.

While Russell Brand's 2011 version of 'Arthur', first made with Dudley Moore starring in 1981, was voted worst remake, the Daily Express reported.

The poll of 2,000 British film lovers was conducted as part of whiskey maker Jameson Empire "Done in 60 Seconds" competition, which challenges aspiring filmmakers to remake any story of their choice in no more than 60 seconds.

'The Mummy' (1999), with action man Brendan Fraser, was dubbed the second best remake, for its update on a 1932 horror classic.

Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' (2005) proved a worthy re-telling of the 1933 original, gaining third place.

'The Italian Job' (2003) was another to do justice to the story's first appearance in 1969, while Martin Scorsese's classic 'Cape Fear' (1991), a remake of a 1962 Gregory peck hit, rounded off the top five greatest ever remakes.

"Films are a massive part of British culture and most of us are never shy of voicing what we like and what we don't," said Evgenia Matthews, Jameson's brand manager.

"There's an increasing trend towards revisiting popular stories within film and 'Ocean's Eleven' is a great example of how a remake can be so successful," Matthews added.

Four in 10 of those polled said they were open minded when it comes to remakes, but 45 per cent said remakes often don't respect the original enough. (ANI)
