London, Feb 25 (ANI): Jacob Rees-Mogg, who has always been prepared to go to the extra syllable in his tireless crusade against the dumbing down of Westminster oratory, has earned a place in the record books by uttering the longest word ever used in a Commons speech.
The 42-year-old Eton and Oxbridge-educated backbencher puzzled fellow MPs by deploying 'floccinaucinihilipilification' in a debate about the pay of Euro bureaucrats.
The 29-letter whopper is generally accepted to be the longest word in the English language.
According to the Oxford dictionary, it means "the action or habit of estimating something as worthless".
Rees-Mogg, MP for North East Somerset, defended his flamboyant use of vocabulary.
"It's one of those words I've known since I was a schoolboy," the Daily Express quoted Rees-Mogg as telling the BBC Daily Politics show. (ANI)
