Chennai, Feb.23 (ANI): Police in Chennai's Velachery area confirmed on Thursday that they had killed five people in an encounter as they were trying to rob a bank late on Wednesday night.
Police said that they had received a tip-off and surrounded a house on Vandikaran Street. The robbery suspects opened fire at the police injuring two inspectors, but were eventually killed.
Local authorities say the same gang has robbed other banks across the city.
In the last two months, two banks have been robbed of Rs.14 lakh and Rs.19 lakh respectively. (ANI)
