Mathura/Greater Noida, Feb 23 (ANI): High-voltage drama continues to unfold Uttar Pradesh as contesting parties flex their political muscle in poll-bound state.
Addressing a rally in Mathura, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh attacked the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their duplicitous politics.
"Statues are made in the memory of persons who are no more. Mayawati does not feel that the masses would erect a statue for her, so she is erecting them herself. She feels nobody else would erect a statue for her later. In such a situation, it is certain that the elephant (BSP symbol) is no more," Singh said.
"The BJP also plays divisive politics and believes in making people fight with each other. When the elections are close, the BJP rakes up the Lord Rama temple issue, and as soon as polls are over, they forget all about it," he added.
Meanwhile, taking on the Congress with her trademark aggression, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati pricked holes in the ruling party's claims of bringing about development in Uttar Pradesh if voted to power.
"When Congress party was not able to remove and eradicate poverty, unemployment and other grievances of the people of Uttar Pradesh during its decades-long rule in the state, then how can it bring about a change in merely five years? You must think on these lines while voting," Mayawati told a gathering in Greater Noida.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state. new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
