Afghan Taliban rejects reports of talks with Kandahar Peace Council

Karachi, Feb 23(ANI): The Afghan Taliban has rejected reports of it having talks with the Kandahar Peace Council in Pakistan.

 

Taliban spokesperson Qari Yousuf Ahmadi however, confirmed that peace talks are being held in Qatar with the United States.

 

According to the Dawn, Kandahar Peace Council chairman Ata Mohammad Ahmadi had earlier claimed that they were holding talks with the Taliban in Pakistan.

 

"In the last 10 days, our peace council delegation has gone to Quetta three times in twos and threes," he had said.

 

He had said that the officials had been meeting for "some time" alongwith with mid-level Taliban commanders in Quetta.

 

"Who has the authority to negotiate?" senior Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid asked.

 

Mujahid claimed that there are two stakeholders in the Afghan peace process - the US and Taliban. (ANI)
