Saif Ali Khan arrested in assault case

Mumbai, Feb 22 (ANI): Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an NRI businessman over a heated argument at a luxury hotel here last night.

Saif has been arrested at his lawyer's chamber in south Mumbai's Nariman Point and been taken to the Colaba police station, NDTV reports.

Saif has reportedly been brought to the Colaba Police Station where a case has been registered by Iqbal Sharma, who claims that the actor assaulted him and fractured his nose at Wasabi, a restaurant at the fancy Taj hotel, last night.

However, according to certain media reports, the actor is expected to get bail soon.

Khan was reportedly accompanied by girlfriend and actress Kareena Kapoor at the time of the incident.

Mumbai Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Iqbal Shaikh confirming the incident earlier said that a case has been registered against the actor under Section 325, read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

According to complainant Iqbal Sharma, a South African businessman of Indian origin, Saif and those accompanying him were talking loudly while seated at an adjacent table.

When Sharma walked up to them and objected to their talking loudly, an argument ensued leading to a brawl during which he was assaulted by Saif, leaving him with a bleeding and fractured nose.

Saif Ali Khan's home production Agent Vinod is due to release on March 23 and features Kareena in the lead with him. (ANI)
