Strengthening India-Belarus ties

New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): The third round of Foreign office consultations between India and Belarus were held in New Delhi on 21-22 February.

 

Delegation level talks were held between Belarus' Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei F. Aleinik and Sanjay Singh, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs.

 

Aleinik also called on the External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia during his visit. He also had a meeting with Alok Perti, Secretary, Coal.

 

The talks served to further strengthen the close and friendly relations between India and Belarus. The entire gamut of bilateral relations was reviewed during the talks. Fertilisers formed an important item in the agenda as India is keen on a long term arrangement for the supply of potash fertilizers and Belarus is one of the major suppliers in the world.

 

The ongoing cooperation in the area of science and technology was also discussed during the consultations.

 

In regional and international matters issues of common concern were covered and views were exchanged on the current international situation. Close cooperation in international fora was reiterated.

 

Belarus expressed its support for the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism and India's candidature for a permanent seat in an expanded United Nations Security Council. (ANI)
