London, Feb 21(ANI): Former Essex county cricketer and spot-fixing convict Mervyn Westfield has agreed to reveal his side of the story to the England and Wales Cricket Board's interrogators for the first time, as the ECB prepares to indict former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria.
Westfield has already provided some information to the ECB and is likely to be interviewed in prison, even as Kaneria has been charged with persuading Westfield to accept 6,000 pounds to concede a set number of runs in an over, while playing for Essex against Durham in 2009.
Kaneria has so far denied any involvement in the scam and charges against him were dropped by Essex police last year, The Telegraph reports.
But the International Cricket Council had earlier issued a statement to "categorically" deny Kaneria's claims that he had received clearance over the matter.
The Access Unit led by a former Metropolitan Police officer, Chris Watts, will also interview Essex players to gather more evidence for the probe before the beginning of next season.
The ECB could issue an interim ban on Kaneria and suspend him from cricket in Pakistan and also from playing anywhere in the world.
Westfield's involvement in the spot -fixing in county cricket was revealed by his then Essex team-mate Tony Palladino, who informed Grayson before the start of the 2010 season. (ANI)
