Beijing, Tue, 21 Feb 2012 ANI

Beijing, Feb 21 (ANI): The Foreign Correspondents Club in China has issued a security warning to all of its members after three European media officials were attacked last week while covering protests in a village in the country.

The reporters were covering land rights protests in the village of Panhe, in the eastern Zhejiang province.

In one incident, a French reporter had his car rammed and a group of men beat up his Chinese assistant.

In another incident, a Dutch correspondent was attacked by men who appeared to be police, The BBC reports.

The Chinese authorities have allowed foreign journalists to report in all parts of the country, expect Tibetan areas.

According to the report, the attacks showed the country's increased willingness to use violence against foreign journalists.

The report said that journalists in China often face harassment or worse when covering sensitive issues.

Correspondents from several news organisations, including the BBC, have been detained in recent months when trying to cover unrest in Tibetan areas. (ANI)
