New Delhi, Feb.20 (ANI): The Prime Minister's Office has reportedly asked the Department f Telecom to provide details of all corruption cases related to the distribution and use of 2G pectrum.
The PMO has also asked for the Comptroller and Auditor General's report, including orruption allegations against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran.
The department has also reportedly been told to give inputs on important cases pending before he Supreme Court regarding 2G spectrum allocation and draft telecom policies.
The demand from PMO comes as Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal continues to maintain hat the recent Supreme Court judgement cancelling 122 telecom licences will have a far eaching impact on the future of the telecom industry, as also other allied sectors.
Sibal said that the government has been studying the judgement and would take a view on how o proceed. He added that decisions taken would be placed in public domain to ensure ransparency.
The Department of Telecom has said that a new telecom policy could be introduced by the end f April 2012.
The new policy is expected to ensure greater transparency and clarity in the telecom sector.
The draft note of the new policy is expected to be placed before the Union Cabinet for onsideration by March 21.
The last telecom policy was unveiled over a decade ago in 1999 when India's phone ubscribers base was barely a couple of million. (ANI)
