Oman firm withdraws use of Ashok Chakra after being challenged by Indian lawyer

Muscat, Feb 19(ANI): An Oman-based business firm that has been using images of the Ashoka Chakra on their stationary, hoardings and newspaper advertisements has decided to withdraw such advertisements, an Indian lawyer who highlighted the issue to the Indian embassy has said.

"Finally battle against the misuse of Indian national emblem has been won partially," the Gulf News quoted Lalachen, as saying.

"It is not clear whether they are going to remove the emblem from all their stationery, sign boards, carry bags and the website," he added.

Lalachen termed the business house's decision to remove Ashoka Chakra from the advertisements as a symbolic success.

He had earlier written to Indian Ambassador J. S. Mukul to intervene and take appropriate steps to end use of the national emblem and colours of the national flag by a business enterprise which, he alleged, was owned by an Indian.

He claimed he had taken up the issue with the previous ambassador Anil Wadhwa, but no action was taken, and the business enterprise continued to use the emblem in its newspaper advertisements, hoardings and other printed materials.

"So far there has been no reply even to acknowledge that they have received my complaint. Even when I wrote to the previous ambassador there was no response," alachen had said. (ANI)
