New Zealand cricket boss says Wright remains 'high priority' as coach

Wellington, Sun, 19 Feb 2012 ANI

Wellington, Feb 19(ANI): New Zealand Cricket boss David White has stressed that John Wright remains the "top priority" as coach whose contract is expiring in August this year.

"John took over at the end of 2010 and he's done a very, very good job. Particularly since the Hobart win, there's been a really good feel about the team. He's introduced new players to the squad, both young and old, who have all performed very well and added to the depth of the squad," stuff.co.nz quoted White, as saying.

"As I've said, it's high on the priority list. I can't say any more than to say that he has performed particularly well," he added.

Sources told the Sunday Star-Times that Wright might be appointed as the head coach until the end of the one-day 2015 Cricket World Cup.

White, who took over from Justin Vaughan as chief executive on February 1, admitted that discussions with Wright were ongoing but declined to comment on whether his organisation intended to re-sign Wright beyond the West Indies tour.

Wright had earlier said that he had "enjoyed" being the New Zealand coach, but was "undecided" about his future. (ANI)
