Sydney, Feb 18(ANI): Young Australian fast bowler James Pattinson has said he would prefer to go straight into the Australian squad for the conclusion of the ODI tri-series.
He feels he would not have to bowl more than 10 overs in those matches and that would be better for him.
A month's rest and a fortnight's bowling in the nets has convinced Cricket Australia's medical staff to allow Pattinson to begin his comeback on Monday, in a Futures League match for Victoria away to South Australia.
Victoria's next Sheffield Shield match is on March 1, a day before the Melbourne ODI but Pattinson wants to play a part in the ODI tri-series.
"I'm probably not ready to go at 100 per cent [for long periods]. I suppose if I was playing Shield cricket 'Shippy' [coach Greg Shipperd] would be on my back trying to get 100 per cent out of me, knowing that we can make the final," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Pattinson, as saying.
"If I don't get picked in the one-day series then it might be an option to go back and play there [in the Shield], but the West Indies [tour] does start with one-dayers and T20Is, so I can use that period to build up for the Test matches," he said.
Pattinson said while he was playing in the Test matches against India, his body was not used to so much of strain and therefore his body broke down.
"In the period of time [before] I was playing Test cricket I never played more than two Shield games in a row . . . so I suppose my bones and body weren't hard enough for Test cricket at that stage," he said. (ANI)
