Islamabad, Feb 18 (ANI): Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) has said that the demand of the United States to put curbs on the group in compliance with international sanctions disrespects the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The US State Department had issued a press brief on Thursday, raising concerns over the public appearances of JUD president Hafiz Saeed. It called the group a front for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, and urged Pakistan to freeze JuD's assets, and impose travel restrictions on its leaders.
The JuD, however, defended their chief Hafiz Saeed, insisting that he was a respectable and independent citizen of Pakistan.
"If United States blames our organisation or our chief, it is a direct disrespect of the decision given by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and intervention in the internal matters of Pakistan," The Express Tribune quoted a JuD spokesperson, as saying.
The JuD was cleared by investigative authorities in Pakistan of all allegations of supporting terrorism or sectarian activities.
"We have always worked for the prosperity of Pakistan and Muslim Ummah," the spokesperson said.
He added that the Difa-e-Pakistan council was working for the solidarity, progress and an independent foreign policy of Pakistan. (ANI)
