Washington, Feb 17(ANI): Apple has announced that its new operating system, the Mountain Lion will be available to users from late summer 2012.
Mountain Lion, which is available to developers from today, borrows features and applications from the iPad and iPhone and integrates them to Apple's laptop and desktop computers.
"The developer preview of Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the incredibly successful release of Lion and sets a rapid pace of development for the world's most advanced personal computer operating system," The Telegraph quoted Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, as saying.
The new version of OS X includes iOS features such as Notification Centre, Game Centre and AirPlay mirroring which will now be a part of the Mac Applications such as Notes and Reminders.
The new version boasts of the optional Gatekeeper feature, which lets the user control the application that runs on Mac.
The new security feature aims to drive users towards the Mac App Store and towards a more controlled application environment.
Mountain Lion extends the integration of iCloud, Apple's cloud storage service, further into OS X. (ANI)
