Delhi earns recognition for having highest monthly per capita expenditure, monthly income

New Delhi, Feb.16 (ANI): Delhi has earned a special recognition of having the highest monthly per capita expenditure and the highest monthly per capita income in the country.

 

Its MPCE increased from Rs. 2078 during 2008 to Rs. 2905 in 2010 in urban area. The per capita income of Delhi during 2009-10 was Rs. 116886 which is also the highest among all states /UTs.

 

This signifies the prevalence of relatively better levels of living standards in Delhi as compared to other states.

 

This has been revealed in a report titled "Level and Pattern of Household Consumer Expenditure in Delhi", released last evening by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who is also holding charge of the Department of Finance.

 

The report has been prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Delhi.

 

The report is based on a sample survey conducted during July 2009- June 2010 under National Sample Survey of 66th Round. The report is comprehensive as well as informative. It will prove to be of use to the Planners, Researchers and Policy Makers.

 

Dikshit said the report reveals many indicators of prosperity and preferred heads of expenditure.

 

She added that Delhi is placed much better in respect of average expenditure as compared to all other states and UTs.

 

Dikshit further stated that around 90 percent of the total households are using LPG as their source of cooking, whereas only 4.81 percent are dependent on kerosene and 1.62 percent on fire wood.

 

Another indicator of prosperity is that around 64 percent households have their own dwelling units and 31 percent are in rented accommodation.

 

About 15.31 percent of total households (5.61 lakh) have internet connections at their homes in Delhi. The average household size in urban Delhi is less than 4.5 persons and average number of children per household comes to 1.17.

 

As regards, percentage of population in urban parts, 97.29 percent of the population is concentrated in non-rural area.

 

The distribution of occupation of household reveals that 49 percent were regular waged / salaried household followed by 40 percent self employed household. About four percent household were in the category of labour and remaining seven percent were other household as per their occupation.

 

About 90.12 percent of Delhi's population is literate. Around seven percent of total households are headed by a female member of the family.

 

Out of Delhi's total female population of 75.64 lakh,50 percent are currently married, six percent widows and 0.18 percent are divorced or separated. (ANI)
