Mumbai/Pune/Nagpur, Feb 16 (ANI): Bollywood starlets turned out to cast their votes for the civic body polls on Thursday Mumbai and urged locals to exercise their franchise to select the most eligible candidate.

The polls were being held in Maharashtra's Thane, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Nashik, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur and Mumbai municipal corporations.

Talking to the reporters, Bollywood singer Kailash Kher said that the masses should vote in order to accomplish the visions.

"Definitely, I think that many changes are taking place in the country and Mumbai will also undergo changes. Gradually, in the last 1 to 2 years, lot of awareness has been created among the masses. People are coming out and raising their voices against the issues. When these kinds of incidents happen, then we can surely say that we are witnessing change within the society. It is really nice that people are at least going to cast their vote, he added.

Actor Anupam Kher, however, criticised the lethargy of locals for not exercising their basic right and considering voting day as holiday.

"BMC is one of the richest corporations in the country. Despite of this, the condition of Mumbai is pitiable. People should not consider the voting day as a holiday but as their duty. We can talk about responsibility only when we talk about duty. People should come out and cast their vote to the desired candidates. Not casting your vote is a crime," he said.

Actor Shakti Kapoor said that the civic body polls were the utmost important elections as it would to decide the political trajectory across 10 municipal corporations in the state.

"The Corporations elections are the most important elections. I have made an announcement in my entire building that 99.9 percent people should cast their vote. Everyone is going including the old people, uncles and aunts," said Kapoor. (ANI)
