Pak Govt mulling over next ISI chief as Pasha's tenure ends on March 18

Islamabad, Feb 16(ANI): The Pakistan government is mulling over the appointment of new Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, as its current Director General Lieutenant General Shuja Pasha's tenure ends on March 18.

 

Sources, told the Dawn that Major General Mohammad Asif, Major General Naushad Kiyani, Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam and Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal are top contenders for the post.

 

The government might extend Pasha's tenure also on the cards, they added.

 

General Pasha's tenure has already been extended twice by the government.

 

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will decide onthe new intelligence chief after consulting military leadership.

 

US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter had earlier expressed his concern over the Pasha's retirement and added that appointment of the new ISI chief can affect Pak -US ties. (ANI)
