Washington, Feb 8 (ANI): Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz has submitted an application asking for a local commissioner to record his Memo Gate testimony outside Pakistan.
The application was submitted through his counsel Akram Sheikh. Ijaz said he should be allowed to testify either in Dubai or London on the directions of the commission and the local commissioner, if appointed by this commission.
He said they could record his evidence at the designated place outside Pakistan under Rule 5 of Order 26 of the Code of Civil Procedure, The Daily Times reports.
He requested the commission to appoint a suitable local commissioner for recording evidence outside Pakistan as mandated by the order of the Supreme Court on December 30, 2011 and January 30, 2012.
The applicant stated that former Pakistan envoy to the US Husain Haqqani was free to travel outside Pakistan pursuant to a Supreme Court order.
Ijaz said the view that the examination of a relevant witness might entail heavy costs was not sufficient ground to prevent a local commissioner from taking his testimony. As far as security was concerned, he said he did not trust either Interior Minister Rehman Malik or Attorny General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq. (ANI)
