Islamabad, Feb 8 (ANI): Former Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashid Latif has backed Mohsin Khan, saying he does not require a certificate to remain as the Pakistan coach because the team recent victory against England under him, itself says it has 'achieved what it never did in its Test history.'
Despite achieving a historic whitewash against wolrd number-one England, Mohsin is not the favourite for the position and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keen on appointing a 'qualified' coach with Dav Whatmore sitting top of the list.
However, Latif said that Mohsin, appointed till the end of the England series, should get an extension to his tenure with series-wins against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and England in the bag.
He tried to prove his point, saying he believes the country's cricket coach should Pakistani.
"I believe the coach should be a Pakistani. Mohsin should continue as coach. Under him, Pakistan has achieved what they never did in their Test history," The Express Tribune quoted Latif, as saying.
"A former cricketer of Mohsin's stature doesn't require qualification. He was a classy player and had a huge following. He's also proved his worth by guiding the team to success that no previous coach did. He doesn't need certificates because he has shown his worth practically. Certificates don't matter much even I have one," he added.
Latif said the England whitewash has done wonders for Pakistan's image and silenced doubters who criticized the team after the spot-fixing scandal. (ANI)
