'Obama Girl' stuck with tag from 2008

Washington, Feb 7 (ANI): The 29-year-old New Yorker, who became famous as the Obama Girl in 2008 when her YouTube videos supporting Obama's presidential campaign went viral, says that her act back then "doesn't necessarily mean" she'll have to be the 'Obama Girl' forever.

But Amber Lee Ettinger, who has since moved to California to pursue her true interests in fashion and entertainment, says that people can expect more videos as the election nears this year.

Ettinger and her supporting team at BarelyPolitical.com, put out a new video last month in which she spoofs the Lisbeth Salander character in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', manipulating Republican hopefuls behind the scenes in order to destroy their candidacies.

She said that she still gets recognized on the street as the Obama Girl and the questions started rolling in last fall: What are you going to do in 2012?

"There's a part of me that wanted to stay away from it," Politico quoted her as saying.

"I think four years ago, when the video came out and I got millions of views on YouTube, it definitely helped people know who Amber Lee Ettinger was. But it can definitely shut a lot of doors, too, because, if I'm striving to be an actress and they see me as this Obama Girl character, they say, 'She's not really an actress, she just did this YouTube thing.'

"And people who may not like Obama, may not like me. I don't know if I would have been able to pursue the acting jobs that I've done the last couple of years without it. Would I have been able to do better stuff without Obama Girl? I'll never know," she said.

However, with the 2012 election looming, she does have her own doubts about the man she became famous for supporting.

"I haven't really decided which way I'm going to go yet... I'm still keeping my eyes and ears open. I certainly don't dislike Obama. I think he's done a lot of really great stuff, but he doesn't get enough credit for the things he does," she said.

"What he does is just never enough. For me, being Obama Girl, it's hard because I get people saying, 'switch to the other side! Make videos for Ron Paul! Why are you with Obama? He sucks!'" she added. (ANI)
