Wellington, Feb 4(ANI): Legendary New Zealand batsman Glenn Turner has described Twenty20 as 'ugly' and 'unwatchable'
He feels Twenty20 cricket doesn't require much core skill to perform well.
"Twenty20 provides no time for the true character of players to show through. One-day, 50-over cricket still has a long way to go to reach its possible potential, but I find T20 cricket is ugly, and almost unwatchable," Turner wrote in his column for Stuff.co.in.
Turner, who is the head of New Zealand cricket selection panel, said it is very difficult for players to play well in the shortest version of the game.
"As I have already suggested, it is very difficult for the players to play it well, and most don't. Additionally, all the other limitations associated with such a massively shortened version of the game make it very hard to watch for anyone with an educated eye," he added.
He also believes the fundamentals and core skills of cricket are being botched up by Twenty20 cricketers and are surrendering psychologically to the pressure that Twenty20 cricket exerts on them.
"In T20, the core skills are mostly being butchered by the vast majority of players. They are either succumbing psychologically to the pressure-cooker timeframe, or have an inability to execute well, or a combination of the two," he added. (ANI)
