Dunedin, Feb 3 (ANI): New Zealand has comprehensively the Zimbabwe cricket teamin the first ODI held at Dunedin's University Oval today.
After restricting New Zealand to just 248, and bowling them out in the 49th over, Zimbabwe had put up a good show on the field.
But their batting let them down badly and they were bowled out 91 runs short of their target.
Skipper Brendan Taylor was most impressive, but got carried away after launching a huge six over the main stand, and was caught the next ball.
After the ball was replaced, Taylor had another go at Rob Nicol, but even hitting downwind, was unable to clear Andrew Ellis who misjudged the catch before eventually taking it well above his head as he fell backwards.
Taylor aside, Zimbabwe's lack of batting depth was highlighted, Stuff.co.nz reports.
All the New Zealand bowlers pitched in, but Kyle Mills and Rob Nicol were the best taking 3-26 and 4-19 respectively.
Earlier, Martin Guptill was the only real shining light with the bat for New Zealand.
He continued his good form with a comfortable 70.
The teams play again in Whangarei on Waitangi Day. (ANI)
