London, Feb 3(ANI): Several boxing stars have paid homage to legendary trainer Angelo Dundee, who died on Wednesday evening after a heart attack.
Dundee trained boxing legend Muhammad Ali and was one of the most respected figures in the boxing world.
He was hospitalized in Florida before being moved to a healthcare center. He appeared to be recuperating but eventually passed away at the age of 90.
"Angelo Dundee was one of my idols. I always used to say I wanted to be like him because he doesn't talk badly about anybody, but I'm not quite there yet. A great man and great loss to our sport," said Freddie Roach who coaches Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao.
Former two-weight world champion David Haye expressed his tribute to Dundee through his Twitter account.
"RIP Angelo Dundee, the greatest coach ever. I had the pleasure of spending time with him in Miami last year. What a true gentleman," Haye tweeted.
WBC and WBA super-middleweight champion Andre Ward also paid homage to Dundee on Twitter, The Sun reports.
"Just saw Angelo Dundee died. I know everyone has to go at some point, but this caught me off guard. He's a guy you'd think would live forever!" Ward tweeted.
American fighter Antonio Tarver termed Dundee's death as a sad day for boxing.
"It's a sad day in boxing with the passing of legendary trainer Angelo Dundee. Blessings and condolences to his family and friends," said Tarver. (ANI)
