IAEA inspectors did not visit Iran's nuclear sites

Tehran, Wed, 01 Feb 2012 ANI

Tehran, Feb 1 (ANI): United Nations inspectors did not visit any of Iran's nuclear sites where uranium is being enriched.

According to an Iranian official, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts instead concentrated on talks with Iranian officials.

The official said talks were held in a 'positive and constructive atmosphere,' The Daily Express reports.

Mohammad Karamirad, a member of the influential parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, said the visit by the IAEA team showed Iran has had "comprehensive and honest cooperation with the agency."

"The visit can be the beginning of a new round of talks with the West, and it proves the peacefulness of Iran's nuclear activities," Karamirad added.

According to the report, Iran has been trying to display co-operation with the team and downplay expectations of a confrontational atmosphere during the visit.

Meanwhile, the US and its allies charge that Iran is using its uranium enrichment facilities to produce material for nuclear weapons.

Iran, however, maintains that it seeks to operate the reactors only for energy and medical purposes, not for making weapons. (ANI)
