Kolkata, Feb 1 (ANI): Hawkers in Kolkata formed a human chain on Wednesday to protest against the state government's move to evict them without rehabilitating them.
Joint Secretary of Hawkers Sangram Committee Anandi Saha said: "18 hawkers were evicted. Only the hawkers belonging to Sugar and Spice are still there, and they told us that new hawkers are going to come. These hawkers have been in this profession for the last 15-20 years on the footpath outside SSKM Hospital."
"The chairman of the apex committee and the mayor at that time, gave their consent," Saha added.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said her government has always been sensitive to the needs of hawkers. (ANI)
